TWIA
Legislators continue to debate issues surrounding the Texas Windstorm Insurance Agency (TWIA) and are blaming special-interest groups for some of the turmoil.
Lt. Gov. Dewhurst called TWIA reform "must-pass" legislation, and the governor has made it clear he wants the TWIA issue resolved as hurricane season ramps up.
House Insurance Committee chairman John Smithee (R-Amarillo) says, “Realistically, we’ve got a 50/50 chance” of passing a measure in the current special session.
If the TWIA debate isn’t solved by the time this session ends on June 29, it’s possible, even likely, that Gov. Perry will call lawmakers back for a second special session.
