Get involved in your local government! - Citizens are encouraged to participate on a City board or commission.
 
San Antonio residents are encouraged to get involved in their local government by serving on a City board or commission.

Applications are being sought for seats on a variety of at-large and district boards. Citizens who wish to apply for these seats may obtain a board application from the City Clerk's Office, located on the second floor of City Hall, or on the City's website at www.sanantonio.gov/clerk.

New Positions Available For Head Start Policy Council - Deadline October 7, 2011

The City South Management Authority Board of the City of San Antonio is soliciting applications for four openings.  Applications deadline is September 30th.

Citizens who have an interest in City government and who are also interested in improving the quality of life for the southern sector of San Antonio are invited to apply for any of the four positions available on the City South Management Authority (CSMA) Board.

Qualifications:

At least three directors appointed must:

(1) Reside in the CSMA; or

(2) Own property in the CSMA

One appointee may be:

(1) Owner of stock, whether beneficial or otherwise, of a corporate owner of property in the CSMA;

(2) Owner of a beneficial interest in a trust that owns property in the CSMA; or

(3) Agent, employee, or tenant of a person who: (A) owns property in the CSMA; or (B) is covered by Subdivision (1) or (2) above.

The four appointees should possess some of the following experience:

  1. Energy matters
  2. Commercial Banking
  3. Real Estate development
  4. Finance and insurance matters
  5. Retail or the provision of services
  6. Provision of Utilities
  7. General issues the CSMAwill address

Term of Office:  Two years (January 1, 2012 – December 31, 2013)

Mission:  Promote and Foster Sustainable Development and Economic Growth

Planning Commission Seeks Applicants - posted September 8, 2011
The City of San Antonio is seeking applicants to fill four available positions on the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission advises the City Council on the master plan for the physical development of San Antonio. The commission also provides recommendations on capital improvements and administers regulations on subdivisions and platting, to include the extra-territorial jurisdiction. Each term is for two years.

Regularly scheduled meetings are held twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 2 p.m. at the Cliff Morton Development and Business Services Center, 1901 S. Alamo St., in the first floor board room.

Newly-created BuildingStandards Board seeking applicants - deadline for applications extended to August 5, 2011

Citizens who have an interest in City Government and who are also interested in improving the quality of life for the City of San Antonio are invited to apply for one of the 14 positions available on the Building Standards Board.

The deadline to submit an application has been extended from Friday, July 8 to Friday, Aug. 5. Individuals interested in serving on this board can obtain an application by visiting https://webapps2.sanantonio.gov/BoardComm/Vacancies.aspx.

On May 5, 2011, the San Antonio City Council approved a new ordinance to strengthen, update and clarify minimum property maintenance requirements for property owners and tenants. This included a reconstitution of the City-staffed Dangerous Structures Determination Board (DSDB) into the 14-member, citizen-based Building Standards Board. Ten of the members will be appointed by City Council and four will be appointed at-large.

The new Building Standards Board will hear appeals and violations of the new minimum property maintenance code and the San Antonio Property Maintenance Code, and rule on cases related to dangerous and dilapidated structures.

The ten district appointees should have some of the following experience:

  1. Structural engineer
  2. Architect
  3. Neighborhood association leader
  4. Maintenance professional
  5. Real estate professional
  6. Home inspector
  7. Construction professional
  8. Concerned citizen
  9. Historic preservation professional

The four at-large appointments are prescribed for the following categories:

  1. Single-family rental property manager
  2. Multi-family rental property manager
  3. Commercial rental property manager
  4. Historic preservation professional

Individuals who have an interest in City government and are also interested in helping to serve the San Antonio community are invited to apply for one of the positions available on the following board and commissions:

  • Convention and Visitors Commission – (8) positions
  • Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) - (11) positions
  • Joint City/County Citizens Bond Oversight Commission - (10) positions

The Convention and Visitors Commission assists the City in establishing measurable objectives for the Alamodome, Convention Facilities, and Convention and Visitors Bureau.  It also evaluates the effectiveness of current and proposed programs.  The CDAC is responsible for implementing the Strategic Plan for Community Development, with the following three major elements:  Reinvestment Planning, Coordinating City Resources, and Leveraging Private Sector Investment. They also build relationships with community partners; propose policy changes regarding community development, and makes recommendations to City Council.

The Joint City/County Citizens Bond Oversight Commission advises City and County elected officials as to the recommended process for delivery of capital improvements projects, including review of scope, cost estimate, budget, schedule, public input, alternative delivery systems, program management and other capital improvement processes.

Applicants for TIRZ

City seeks Board applicants for development in Southeast neighborhoods - Deadline is March 4th

Members of the community have the opportunity to help make decisions about how public money is spent, developing the Southeast side of San Antonioand serve the community in a greater sense. The City of San Antonio is seeking applicants for Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) Highland Heights #4. The zone was designated to support development in the southern section of the City. TIRZ board members serve a vital role in developing these areas into viable and economically diverse sectors of the City. Board members serve in an oversight capacity and make decisions about how TIRZ money is spent. Members are also responsible for helping to create or amend the guiding documents of the TIRZ, and approve contractual agreements and reimbursement requests from developers and other participating taxing entities. Board members are only obligated to attend occasional meetings and bring a willingness to serve the community.  Volunteer to serve your community by joining a TIRZ board today.

To be eligible for appointment to the board, an individual must; 1) be at least 18 years of age; and 2) own real property in the zone or be an employee or agent of a person that owns real property in the zone.

Airport Advisory

Airport Advisory Commission Accepting Applications

The Airport Advisory Commission’s (AAC) primary purpose is to advise the City’s aviation director regarding policies, including any noise related issues, affecting the City’s airports and air transportation initiatives. The City of San Antonio is seeking applicants for stakeholders in the following categories:

  •  Airport Business – Lessee (1 slot)

  •  Aviation industry to include, but not be limited to representatives from the military, commercial airlines, the National Air Transport Association, 
      the National Business Aircraft Association, aircraft manufacturers, private aircraft pilots, and the Airline Pilots Association (2 slots) 

  •  Community to include a minimum of four neighborhood associations from neighborhoods located near the Airport, each representing a
      different association (3 slots) 

  •  Travel and Tourism Industry (1 slot) 

  •  Business Community to include one local chamber of commerce representative (2 slots)
